MILAT FLOOR

Market Guide

SPC & LVT Flooring Supplier for Germany

What German importers and distributors look for, and how MILAT lines up against it.

Germany is Europe's largest flooring market, and it is also one of the most exacting. German buyers, from wholesalers to retail chains, expect low emissions, real certification, and paperwork that stands up to scrutiny. Vague claims do not get past a German procurement desk. Here is how MILAT is set up to meet that standard as a manufacturing partner.

Indoor air quality comes first

Emissions are a serious topic in the German market, and buyers want evidence, not assurances. Our SPC is FloorScore certified, the recognised standard for low-VOC flooring and indoor air quality, which gives your compliance and specification teams a credential they already trust. If your customers ask about additional national marks, we are happy to discuss what applies to a given project rather than overstate what we hold.

CE marking and EU conformity

Selling into Germany means meeting EU rules, and our product carries CE marking under the Construction Products Regulation (EU 305/2011). That is the baseline for placing flooring on the European market and keeps your import documentation clean.

Systems behind the product

German distributors buy from suppliers who can demonstrate process, not just a sample. MILAT operates to a full set of ISO management systems, covering quality, customer satisfaction, environment, information security and occupational health and safety:

  • ISO 9001 (quality management)
  • ISO 10002 (customer satisfaction)
  • ISO 14001 (environmental management)
  • ISO 27001 (information security)
  • ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety)

We also provide an SHI Product Passport, adding the kind of documented traceability German buyers increasingly ask for.

Build quality that holds up

The product itself answers the technical questions: a 100% waterproof SPC core, licensed Unilin click for a reliable, well-known jointing system, a wear layer up to AC5 for commercial use, IXPE acoustic backing with up to 21 dB reduction, and 2X UV coating. The EIR surface delivers the realistic grain that mid and premium German retail expects.

OEM, private label, and logistics

Many German importers sell under their own brand, and we manufacture for exactly that: OEM and private-label production, wholesale volumes, and custom colours and sizes to fit your range. Being based in Gaziantep, Türkiye also shortens the shipping distance to Europe compared with sourcing from East Asia, which tends to mean quicker lead-in and less capital tied up in freight and long transit.

Underfloor heating is the default, and SPC suits it

In German new construction, water-based underfloor heating is closer to standard than option, and every floor covering is judged on how it behaves over a warm slab. SPC performs well here: the mineral core conducts heat efficiently rather than insulating the room from its own heating, and its dimensional stability keeps click joints tight through daily warm-up and cool-down cycles. Combined with low thermal resistance compared with thick wood builds, this makes SPC an easy specification for heated floors, provided system temperatures follow the flooring guidance.

Acoustics in the multi-family building

A large share of Germans live in apartment buildings, and impact sound between floors is regulated, litigated and taken seriously by every Hausverwaltung. This is where an attached acoustic layer stops being a comfort feature and becomes a compliance tool: MILAT's SPC carries an IXPE backing with sound absorption up to 21 dB, softening footfall transmission into the unit below without a separate underlay installation step. For renovations in occupied buildings, an acoustic improvement that arrives glued to the plank is a simpler story to tell the neighbours and the building management.

The renovation market runs through existing floors

Germany's housing stock is old, and most flooring is sold into renovation, not new build. That means installers meet tile from the 1970s, old parquet, and screeds of every era, usually in occupied homes where demolition dust is unwelcome. A floating click floor that goes over sound existing surfaces after levelling, with no adhesive and no curing wait, fits this market's daily reality. Low build height matters too, since doors and thresholds in renovations leave little room. These practical properties, more than any brochure claim, are why rigid vinyl keeps gaining share there.

What German trade buyers check before listing a supplier

German wholesalers and buying groups run a due diligence pattern worth preparing for: verified emissions and product certificates, consistent documentation in order, evidence of a working quality system, plant audits or detailed production documentation, and reliability data before volume grows. A supplier structured for this, with FloorScore certification, the ISO family covering quality, environment, safety and information security, and CE Declarations of Performance per EU 305/2011, passes the file review before the first meeting. A registered manufacturer with certifications in its own name also answers the counterparty-risk question early.

Merchandising support for the German retail floor

German flooring is still largely sold standing in a store, comparing boards in hand. Trade partners need more than containers: display panels, sample chains and folders, technical leaflets that answer installer questions, and a design range curated for northern European taste, where matte natural oaks and calm greys dominate. MILAT's three EIR collections with 54 designs give a retail partner an assortment to build a wall around, and OEM and private-label production lets a chain present that wall entirely under its own brand.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is MILAT flooring certified for the German market?

Our SPC is FloorScore certified for indoor air quality and CE marked under EU 305/2011, the baseline for selling flooring in Germany and the wider EU. We also hold a full set of ISO management systems.

Why does indoor air quality matter so much to German buyers?

Germany has strong expectations around low-emission building products. FloorScore certification gives buyers documented evidence of low VOC emissions, which their specification teams recognise.

Does MILAT hold Blauer Engel or other German-specific marks?

Those are national marks worth confirming per project rather than assuming. What we can confirm today is FloorScore, CE marking and our ISO systems. Ask us about a specific requirement and we will tell you plainly what applies.

Can MILAT produce private-label flooring for our brand?

Yes. We offer OEM and private-label manufacturing, wholesale volumes, and custom colours and sizes so you can sell under your own brand.

What is the shipping advantage of sourcing from Türkiye?

Gaziantep is considerably closer to Europe than East Asian suppliers, which generally shortens transit to German ports and reduces the capital tied up in long freight.

Is the click system compatible with what German installers expect?

We use licensed Unilin click, a widely recognised jointing system, so installers work with a familiar, reliable mechanism.

What documentation can you provide for import compliance?

We supply FloorScore and CE documentation, ISO certification, and an SHI Product Passport for traceability, which together cover the paperwork German importers typically request.

Is SPC flooring suitable for German underfloor heating systems?

Yes. The mineral core conducts heat well and stays dimensionally stable through heating cycles, keeping click joints tight. Follow the flooring's surface temperature guidance when configuring the system.

Why does an attached acoustic layer matter in German apartments?

Impact sound between units is regulated and enforced in multi-family buildings. MILAT SPC's attached IXPE layer absorbs up to 21 dB, improving footfall sound without a separate underlay step, which simplifies renovation approvals.

Why is SPC growing in the German renovation market?

Most German flooring is sold into old housing stock. A low-build floating click floor installs over sound existing tile or screed with no adhesive or curing time, which fits occupied-home renovations better than glued or nailed alternatives.
